It's absorbed poorly and it takes a long time to replenish your iron stores. You're probably not terribly low, but on average females are a touch anemic. Eat a good healthy diet of fresh foods. I also blend an iron supplement into said smoothie (or take one separately when I don't have a smoothie). Another trick is to take something with Vitamin C at the same time - OJ, strawberries, supplements, all blend well or are great alone - because Vitamin C helps with absorption of iron.<br /><br />These are tricks I've learned as someone with low iron.
