sometimes you just need to leave the office and go on a date with your love.

that is tryst, my favorite place to cozy up next to TH. we sat on a bench on the SAME side of the table and he had his arm around me while we listened to some beautiful live jazz and shared nachos. and of course i got my washington carver (choco + peanut butter shake = eyes rolling back in head delicious). after tryst, we walked into used book store and bought a sweet book about norwegian gnomes. perfect night.
work is so crazy busy for both of us right now, but we prioritized each other last night and it was one of the best nights we've had together in a while.

and for the final birthday hurrah, I took TH to a baseball game to see the speed demon, Strasburg, pitch his first game since his injury last year. his fastest pitch of the night was 99mph. that's pretty fast, world.

but let's get down to brass tacks. baseball games = sitting close to each other, listening to him talk about something he loves, and eating french fries and nachos. hello, i do not get why people can't enjoy baseball. ;)

we stayed through the 5th inning, at which point the heavens opened up and poured down on all of us, so we walked home. pregnant bump and all.

ps someone told me this morning that i'm starting to waddle. i don't get why people think it's ok to comment on belly protrusion/width, walking abilities, and the foods i'm eating. but if you are my friend, feel free to comment on all this. see how i have double standards? it's pretty cool.

dating in the district: lunch at ceiba

inspired by hannah and robbie, TH and i had a fancy lunch date today at Ceiba in downtown DC. the food was all incredible and my tastebuds didn't even know how to respond. i got a hibiscus lemonade that was so refreshing and so pink! we shared the guacamole to start, and i had the pumpkin seed tilapia served on mashed fufu (fufu!) and TH had the trio of tacos. the best part of Ceiba? they bring you complimentary caramel popcorn with the check. good heavens, my very favorite thing in the world for free? total total lunch bliss.

i loved lunching with my man, breaking away from our desks for an hour or so to chat about whatever (so what if most of it was about our work?), and be lovey in front of other people having business lunches. we're going to make this fancy lunch date a monthly thing.

have a super weekend, dears. i'm heading to LA tomorrow and will face the carmeggedon (i'm so nervous. bad timing, work conference!). hoping i won't have to sit on the highway for too long. wish me luck!

dating in the district: tryst in adams morgan

tryst is this lovely always overcrowded coffee house in adams morgan that i just love. i think the key is to go every once in a while - it really hits the spot. couches everywhere, free wi-fi, tin ceilings, and rotating local artist exhibits.

th and i ended up there last night for our monday night date, and were glad we made the trip to adams morgan (i know its only a few miles from capitol hill but parking can be a nightmare and we are impatient people). the washington carver (peanut butter and ghiradelli chocolate milkshake) is my favorite thing on the menu. they also have really good teas and sandwiches. we grabbed some drinks and food, listened to live jazz (with a fender rhodes. swoon), caught up on wedding thank-yous and had a great time out on the town. i think if we ever were to leave capitol hill, it would be for adams morgan. that part of town is so energizing and unique. i can stand it as long as its not a weekend night - it gets way too crazy for this homebody.

one of these friday nights i want to take TH to get a jumbo slice in adams morgan. he has never had one and they are an institution around here. so wrong, yet so right.

lunch in the district: the food cart

washingtonians: the food trucks are coming.

over the past year we've seen some pretty exciting food carts pop up around town. and there are more on their way! follow most on twitter to find their location.

my favorite food carts in dc:

1. the fojol brothers of merlindia:
fresh, spicy indian food from a truck blaring bollywood pop some days and disco music another. the brothers park their truck next to parks, lay out a few blankets, and serve indian food while wearing faux thick mustaches and turbans. the concept is silly, but the food is delicious - they serve 4 entree choices per day, the pumpkin is amazing! try a lassi pop on a hot day. get there early to avoid lines. 2 entrees and rice will run about $7. follow their tweets.

2. pedro and vinnys:
this guy has been serving delicious burritos for years - i recommend the veggie black and tan 7. He has a ton of different sauces to spice the burrito differently. he took off for awhile last year, but returned better than ever and much more appreciated by the lunch crowd. the burritos run about $6, and you can only pay with cash. he's parked at 15th and K.

3. sweetgreen:
salads and frozen yogurt. not to be taken lightly - both are amazing. thick, greek style yogurt or creative salads. they don't park near mcpherson square nearly enough for me! they also have cafes in dupont circle and georgetown. follow their twitter for location.

4. and coming soon...sauca!
looks like this truck is going to start next week! the menu looks really...expansive. and delicious. i'm only slightly skeptical, but more excited to try it out. i'm locked onto their twitter.

there's also a korean cart at 14th and L that i'm not in love with, but other people seem to like. any new trucks you've heard about?
