MEH!

me: it's the baby.
mark: wha?
me: the baby.
mark: hmph?
me: the BAYbee.
mark: oh! ok i'll get him...(rolls back over to sleep)

henry: rrrmphhhh....maaaahhh!

me: mark! can you get the baby?
mark: (waking up suddenly) what?
me: henry is awake. can you help him?

mark gets up and shuffles over to henry's bassinet. and i roll over and go back to sleep thinking i can sleep for at least another half hour before mark leaves for work.

henry: MEH!
mark: j, i think he's hungry.
me: meh.

then we snuggle for a little bit while he eats, then he falls asleep on me. and it looks something like this:
(don't worry, he can totally breathe during the faceplant. but this photo makes me laugh so hard.)

so much sleepiness.

this is the second week in a row that i've finished meetings and headed home, only to sleep for FIVE HOURS STRAIGHT. yesterday i fell asleep on the couch watching Oprah (Oprah WIN-FREEEEEY) at 4:30, woke up at some undetermined hour to move it to the bed, and slept until my darling husband came home at 10:00 in the PM. i woke up long enough to say hello, eat a crumpet and half a banana with nutella, then slip back into coma until 7am.

i'm so exhausted lately and kind of achy all over, and my brain is just feeling really fluffy. what IS that?

all i want to do is slip away into dreamland. i just have to wait until tomorrow, when we roadtrip to cumberland, md! we found a little B&B in this western maryland town, with plenty of hiking, biking, and ice cream eating available. i'm really looking forward to a relaxing and fun weekend with my husband of nearly 1 year!

On sleeping

I sleep on my back.

When I cannot sleep, I will toss and turn and try stomach sleeping, and occasionally I'll fall asleep on my side, but I always wake up in the morning on my back.

Since moving into my new room, and obtaining a big girl bed (queen size, ooo la la!) I feel a little silly having my small body take up about 1/3 or maybe more like 5/16 of the bed. Well, last night I tried a little experiment. I propped up all my pillows in the corner that my bed is pushed against, laid a little upright, and stretched my body from corner to corner. I woke up this morning, still upright - looking out over my room, surveying the vast expanse that includes my delicious ikea desk, my photos, my closet, my bookcase, my stuff hanging on the door, etc. Basically I have discovered that I have access to a bed throne. Um, insanely cool.

I'm sitting in my bed throne right now. I'm taking up the whole bed, sprawled out like an octopus - appendages every which way. I like this newfound sleeping arrangement. I just wish my servant would bring me my JUICE! Once and for all!! And my toothbrush, too, please, because I am too lazy to get up.

New York bloody New York

OMG. omg. You GUYS! So I'm sitting in my room earlier tonight, totally content having just hung up from an evening conversation with TH when I saw a black thing dart across the wall. I looked over and it was a HUMONGOID ROACH CRAWLING ALL THE HELL OVER THE PLACE. It was the biggest effing thing I'd ever seen. I immediately freaked out and jumped to the other side of the room, my eyes not able to follow how fast this thing was going.

So I did what any logical girl would do. I called my boyfriend. When boyfriend did not wake up to get my emergency call (for which he could've done nothing to help the cause. It was just comfort, man.) I ran to the living room for a breather. I realized I'd have to take matters into my own hands. I threw open the closet door and looked for Roach Exterminator Outfit. I found a heavy long trench coat and a bike helmet. Perfect. I put it on and timidly stepped back into my bedroom. I searched the walls...nothing. I searched the ceilings...nothing!

*GASP* The roach was in my STUFF.

I started freaking out and to make a long story short, ended up moving almost everything out of my room and into the living room. No roach. I sat down on the couch and tried to breathe. Then I saw it DART across the living room floor. Screams and shaking began again. I threw my shoe at it!! SO BRAVE! It missed. Dammit. The roach ran back into my room and it was gone again. I decided to get the super.

Super comes in, surveys the room, takes apart the heater, searches the coils...Ahh. No roach. It must have left, he said. It must've crawled out the hole in the floor, he said. B.S. I knew it was still here and I knew I wouldn't be sleeping if it didn't die tonight. I thanked him, as he is an sweet older man from some eastern european country who doesn't speak english very well. As he left he said "If the roach come back, you kill with shoe. No scared. Use shoe! Is ok." He really is so cute. But I'm thinking 'like hell im going to kill that radioactive beast'.

About 3 minutes later my roommates walk in the door. They'd been out at a movie and just returned. I was like YOU GUYS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?! I had texted them about the roach so they knew it was here and they were freaking out with me and I was like yeah I have no idea where it went and walked into my room and IT WAS RUNNING UP MY WALLLLL. Ughhhhh, you have no idea how big and disgusting this thing was. I felt like I was on fear factor or something.

Picture this: 3 girls screaming at the top of their lungs, me yelling GET THE SUPER! GET THE SUPER!! Super comes running in, tells me to kill it, and I say NO! YOU HAVE TO DO IT!! I hand him the broom and my chuck taylor shoe and tell him to go for it. He sees it and gets the broom and starts going for it. It falls on the floor and runs out into the living room where all 3 girls are standing. I am on the couch, jumping up and down like Tom Cruise holding my ears shut so I don't hear the roach and the other roomies are freaking out and crying. We are screaming so extremely loud and being the biggest girls I've ever seen. We should've all been ashamed and embarrassed, but we didn't have TIME to think about that. The super had a determined look in his eyes and started stomping, stomping, STOMPING!

SQUISH.

Dead Roach.

Girls screaming subsides. Loud breathing. Roach peeled off shoe, put in napkin, thrown away in the super's trashcan. Roach dead in trash outside my apartment.

Now maybe I can actually sleep tonight.

Except now it is almost 4 AM and I have to get up in 3.5 hours. I might just pull an all nighter and chalk this one up to a city night. THANK GOD FOR THE SUPER. He is Of Good Report. I owe him my happiness.

I can't wait to move away from the roach room, as it will now and forever be known.

Sleep is just a number

Um, yes, hi. So what is the secret to getting to bed at "a decent hour"? I was in bed at 11:30 tonight and I've just been doing the toss and turn thing and it is now nearly 1 AM. I have THINGS TO DO tomorrow, body. Just go to sleep already. For the past week I've been wanting to run in the mornings so I set my alarm for an ungodly hour. By the time I doze off to sleep however, I know there's absolutely no way I will be waking up to run in the morning and still have time to take a girl shower and leave my house by 8:30. So instead I end up pressing snooze about 10 times and have a miserable morning. I've never been an early riser. Just ask my brother.

Robby, do you remember early morning seminary? The only way I ever even made it to 6 AM bible study was knowing if I missed a day I couldn't go out on Friday night. And if I missed 2 days, no going out at all. My father played cruel, cruel jokes on me as a teenager. He knew my weak spots and attacked when necessary. (Though I can't hold it against him that much, on account of I turned out okay and he took me shopping nearly every week - which actually was most likely the beginning of my current habitual shopping problem. Now that I think about it.) Anyway, where was I? That was one hell of a tangent. Oh, yes. Early morning seminary. Whoever thought this up must have a death wish for teenagers. I showed up most mornings with curlers in my hair and spent the majority of class either 1. sleeping 2. putting on makeup or 3. eating donuts. Not all bad.
I do remember crying at the seminary videos, though. I'm very sensitive in the mornings. If you ever want sympathy from me, hit me up in the mornings. Apart from my kitten breath, I'm much more approachable and emotionally connected.

But I seriously digress. Robby, my diligent seminary-going brother was late to class practically every morning due to my inability to get out of bed before 5:45 AM (seminary started at 6AM, ended at 6:50). We were doing good if we got there at 6:20, not even that bad if we arrived at 6:30. I know this made him upset, but he didn't show it too often. I love you Robby! You're a great brother. Sorry I made you late for seminary, but I think we both turned out ok. You're a well-adjusted husband and father and doctor-in-training. And I'm a stressed out college student who STILL can't wake up in time for the important things in her life. Some things never change.

Like, do you still love orange soda and mini powdered donuts?? I would kill for a mini donut right now.
