summer depression.

A friend and I were talking about summer the other day. My friend absolutely adores summer, all hundred-and-eleventy-billion degrees of it. But last week, she admitted to me that this summer she has grown to hate it. She cannot wait for the Fall, her previously least favorite season. I'd like to think that I rubbed off on her a little since Fall is my favorite season and I've always tried to sing its praises to her. Or maybe, just maybe, this summer has made everyone HATE summer. How can a person like a season that forces them to the indoors and they don't even get to experience the long late hours of the day without swatting away mosquitos and seeing their baby grow ever more red-faced and their husband ever more sweat-faced? It's disgusting.

Anyway, I've decided that I have summer related depression. Since returning from Oregon, I'm just tired of staying inside in the stale AC air. I feel trapped and bored and I want to have an evening al fresco picnic without choking on the humidity for once in my summer-life. I'm feeling terribly in need of leaving this swamp of a DC. So. Working on that.

I throw my weight behind the awesomeness of fall. Best season ever.

And summer out here is definitely my least favorite.

Ah Oregon. We visited Portland the first time in July and were instantly enchanted by the magnificent SUMMERS! Portland was basically the best place on earth that July weekend. She's tricky that girl, Portland. She'll sneak in a few good weeks and trap you in. We later learned the consequences of the few amazing weeks once we didn't see the sun for five months straight the winter we moved here.

Autumn is my FAVORITE too. I'm totally looking forward to it this year because it brings cooler temps (it 102 in Pdx on Saturday bleh.) and a it also brings a BABY!! wahoo!

Seasonal depression. I get depressed in spring because I no longer have an excuse to sleep and snuggle in bed all day.

i am seasonally depressed as well. i think the only really perfect place to live that would allow you to enjoy the outdoors regardless of season is northern california. oh it is wonderful. my sister lived there for years and i LOVED visiting her. especially during the winter when i was living in canada. and the fresh produce there is to die for and also dirt cheap. however, they had to move because they would never be able to afford a house there :(.

Totally been there. Um literally. Like in your house been there. (Does it bug you that I keep mentioning that?)
I discovered I just had to cherish spring and fall because that is when DC is at its best. The only way to do DC in the summer is indoors, in a pool, or *really* early in the morning. For example the zoo is actually really nice at 6 am. It is all shaded and cool. You can't go in the animal houses that early but some of the animals are outside and are being fed which makes it interesting.
