i bought a new coat and every single button has popped off. since it's 20 degrees below zero outside (or so it feels), it doesn't help that my coat does not close. every. single. button. it's almost comical - i have a purse full of brass buttons and i'm freezing.
in other news, we have the apartment if we want it. apparently the owner wants to have a "sit-down" meeting with us before we sign the lease, which worries me since we are signing the lease through a management company. doesn't that seem weird? and the management company also told us this morning before we signed the lease, we should know that the owner (he lives upstairs) gets up really, like really early (3-4AM!) and the kitchen is right above our bedroom. so i can't figure out what he is doing in the kitchen that would wake us up in the morning, but apparently that is a huge concern of his. this is all just weird information that you usually just deal with after you move into a place. so now we have to consider if the good apartment, location and price is worth a potentially crazy neighbor.
do you have any sage wisdom for us?

i think you two are the only people i know who encounter such strange, bizarre and weird issues regarding landlords, neighbors, and apartments BEFORE moving into the place. i love it.
naomi just expressed my exact same sentiments. how is it that you attract such craziness?
and as far as advice goes, it would just be great if you guys, the davises, and us all lived on the same block. just saying...
i know! it's so dumb. apparently the owner is crazy and the management company just called me to say he retracted the listing and won't be renting the apartment out. and they dumped him as a client because they "don't need to work with people like that".
oh dear.
i have had the every button popping off thing happen twice on two different coats two different years. i'm thinking coats should come equipped with a sewing kit.
apartment hunting--blah so glad i don't have to do that anymore. one time i put an "ISO" ad on Craigslist with our max rent and a couple requirements and it actually worked. then again, based on the strangeness i read here you may just be doomed.
