Yesterday I was talking with one of my Virginia friends about travel in North America. Here's how the conversation went:
Nomadic Gnome: What is the furthest north you've ever been?
Friend: Toronto
NG: What is the furthest east you've ever been?
Friend: umm...Seattle.
{awkward silence}
NG: Uhh...
{more awkward silence}
Friend: Oh! Yeah...um New York.
Geez. I need a vacation.

Utah is about the only place I have ever lived where people know just right off hand which direction you are talking about. It comes from figuring out a numbered street address system, I guess.
How is the Jeffrey Sachs book? I read an article about him in Vanity Fair last month and have been interested to know more about his ideas.
I hear Memphis is a great town to visit. And they even have a fair coming - yummy cotton candy! But seriously, you are always welcome here and I finally got a job so I can even go do fun things now and it would be cheap for you...
I have been to Seatle.
